Vietnamese artisans have passed down their techniques for spinning bamboo and creating gorgeous, ecological products for generations. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of poverty and child labor in Vietnam. The company’s founder herself left Vietnam at 13 after having begun working in the fields at 8. With her husband, they decided to create a fair trade company that values the painstaking handicrafts of the Vietnamese artisans while being dedicated to providing them with a better future. 

The company has been working with hundreds of Vietnamese craftsmen since the beginning. Prices are set by craftsmen and the company provide them with health insurance. Child labor is not allowed on the products for this company and every artisan must bring their kids to school. Any natural materials used must be replanted and CO2 emissions must be limited as much as possible. Buying one of our bowls or straws is about buying more than just an ecological product, it’s also about helping people lead better lives.

When it comes to sustainable materials, bamboo is one of the best. Not only does it grow incredibly fast, facilitating rapid replacement, but also it stabilizes the ground and traps CO2. As a material, it is soft, yet solid and resistant. Using bamboo ensures the continuation of its culture, an important step for sustainable products. 

In contrast with many of the proposed food products, this company uses solvent-free and VOC-free paints, giving bowls a gorgeous finish while keeping them completely food safe. Some products that are marketed for food use only meet the standards for toys, not for food contact. Not them, every one of their lovely handmade bowls and straws meets European, US, and Japanese standards.
